“Chinese Bridge” Winter Camp started in Zhejiang University

On the afternoon of January 2nd, an American top-university delegation composed of 53 teachers and students from Cornell University and 30 teachers and students from San Jose State University reached Zhejiang University via Beijing to start a “Chinese Bridge” winter camp for a 14-day Chinese culture exchange. It was also the first large foreign visiting group to Zhejiang University in 2010.
The delegation to Zhejiang University is a part of the “American top-university students visiting China” program. Another 3 invited universities are Yale University, The State University of New York and Georgetown University. On December 28th, 2009, 408 American exchange students gathered in Beijing to visit the Palace Museum, the Great Wall, Peking University and Tsinghua University. They have been in Beijing for 5 days before they went to Nanjing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Sichuan Province. Zhejiang University is the host university in Hangzhou.
The representatives of International College of Zhejiang University arranged the reception of guests in Kezhen Zhu international college building. Prof. Jianmin Ding, previous Dean of International College, delivered a speech to welcome the guests warmly. He said, it is the first time that so many students from Cornell University have visited our university since the bilateral cooperation started and it is also the beginning of the cooperation with San Jose State University for both of the universities haven’t signed the agreement yet. After the brief and friendly welcoming ceremony a banquet was severed in the exchange student canteen. The foreign students all enjoyed the delicate Chinese food and thought that it was the real Chinese cuisine. Although it took only several hours to get to Hangzhou, the beautiful scenery along the road, the agreeable weather and the enthusiastic campus culture aroused the guests’ great interest.
