During March 13th -14th, 2010, several doctors made reports on “Zhejiang University-Utrecht University discourse and cognition seminar”. They came from language and cognition research center,ZhejiangUniversity, discourse research center,ZhejiangUniversity, and institute of foreign languages,PekingUniversity.

The report included Mingwei Peng’s study on advertisement metaphor, Wei Han’s study on language virtual motion, Yanli Meng’s study on EFL training ad’s Social Semiotics, Huimin Zou’s study on learner’s spontaneous form attention, Yaping Zhang’s study on emotion and courtesy, Tianxian Li’s study on metonymy and discourse consistence, Renxing Wen’s study on lexicon grammar and discourse analysis and Meixin Hu’s study on the courtesy hermeneutics in Classic of Rites.

Prof. Xeiliang Xiong,FudanUniversity, Prof. Yin Wang,SichuanUniversityand 9 scholars fromUtrechtUniversitymade instant comments on the reports. They asked in detail about the selection of language material, the classification of data sampling and the construction of theoretical frame. After they spoke in praise of those reports, they also offered a lot of enlightening suggestion. The atmosphere of the seminar was so lively that all the delegates regarded the seminar successful. On the morning of March 14^th, 9 Dutch professors had face-to-face discussions withZhejiangUniversitystudents. The seminar was a meaningful exploration of the CSLS’ graduate education and academic vision development.
