OnJan. 8, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council held a grand ceremonyfor national science and technology awards in recognition of the remarkablecontributions of distinguished scientists, engineers and researchers toscientific and technological progress, social and economic development as wellas the modernization of national defense. ZJU clinched one first prize in theState Scientific and Technological Progress Award, two second prizes in theState Technological Invention Award and one second prize in the StateScientific and Technological Progress Award.

Theproject of “Key Technologies and Applications of Composite Foundation Theory”headed up by Prof. GONG Xiaonan from the Collegeof Civil Engineering and Architecture won the first prize inthe State Scientific and Technological Progress Award. To cater to the urgentdemand for the construction upon soft ground, researchers have engaged ingroundbreaking work in terms of the composite foundation theory,high-performance composite foundation technologies and applications ofcomposite foundations through 30-year persistent efforts. They have alsocompiled major norms and criteria regarding composite foundations andformulated a complete engineering application system. These research findingshave enjoyed extensive applications in various construction fields, such asarchitecture, highways, high-speed railways, intra-urban roads, airports andharbors, thereby reaping enormous economic and social benefits.

Theproject of “Novel Technology of Molecular Identification and Separation ofNatural Bioactive Homologues and Its Application” led by Prof. REN Qilong from the College of Chemical andBiological Engineering won the second prize in the StateTechnological Invention Award.

Theproject of “Key Technology in Making High-Toughness Fiber-ReinforcedCementitious Composites in Major Structures” headed up by Prof. XU Shilang from the Collegeof Civil Engineering and Architecture won the second prize inthe State Technological Invention Award.

Theproject of “Key Technology in Preparation of Pantoprazole Sodium and Its Industrialization”headed up by Prof. HU Fuqiang from the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences won the secondprize in the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
