On the evening of November 23.2008, Vice-President Maode Lai received the visiting group from National Cheng Kung University, constituted of 2 professors and 14 graduates, in the banquet hall on the fourth floor of Lingfeng Hotel. Vice Department Chief of the graduate management office Miaohua Lv presided at the reception.
Vice-President Maode Lai gave a speech full of passion to welcome the Taiwan guests warmly. "The exchanges between Zhejiang University and National Cheng Kung University have been conducted successfully for several years and both of the universities have accumulated rich experience in cooperating," he said, "the graduates can open their minds, broaden their horizons and enhance their friendship through communications and the two universities may enter into exchanges in an extensive way to upgrade in scientific research and personnel training." Vice-President Maode Lai also introduced the fundamental state of the Zhejiang University to the guests. In the end he wished the guests a pleasant journey in mainland China.
Professor Yuanfang Chen from Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, appreciated the hospitality in his reply and sent his best wishes to the graduates of Zhejiang University, who will return the visit betimes. A welcome banquet was served after the speeches.
During the banquet, both of the heads of the graduate exchange groups-Shu Zhang from Department of International Trade, Zhejiang University and Junliang Lin from Department of pedagogy, National Cheng Kung University-introduced their members to others. Vice-President Maode Lai gave every Taiwan guest a delicate present in name of Zhejiang University and Graduate Junliang Lin represented National Cheng Kung University to offer the gifts to every leader and graduate of Zhejiang University. The banquet was full of cordial and friendly atmosphere from beginning to end.
In the next few days the visiting group will start various exchange activities such as visiting the campuses and laboratories, attending the academic lectures and travelling in Hangzhou and surrounding cities. In early December, the graduate visiting group of our university, comprised of 16 members, will pay a return visit to National Cheng Kung University.
Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan affairs office Jie Shen, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan affairs office Yinwen Yu, Vice Department Chief of the graduate admissions office Shiyun Hu, Teacher Linyun Xie, Haidong Qu attended the reception. The graduate visiting group of our university was also present.
