President Wei Yang Led the Zhejiang University Delegation to Visit Three American Universities

From April 13th to 15th President Wei Yang led the Zhejiang University Delegation to visit Valparaiso University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Indiana University. The delegation carried on the discussions respectively on the substantive cooperation with the three universities and reached agreement on further enhancing the exchange between students and teachers. In addition, President Wei Yang made a speech on the Seminar of China-U.S. Business Cooperation in Indiana University.
When President Wei Yang visited Valparaiso University on April 13th, President Mark A. Heckler received the delegation. Both of the presidents recalled the achievements on the exchange of teachers, administrators and students during 20 years. After the reception President Wei Yang and President Heckler signed the protocol on the further cooperation.
On April 14th the delegation called on University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and visited National Center of Supercomputing Application, which is at the leading position in the research of high performance computing, network and IT all round the world, and Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, which is outstanding in the interdisciplinary research of physics, computational science, engineering, life science, behavior science, cognitive science and neurosciences. The delegation also paid a visit to Department of Agriculture and Biotechnology and saw the exchange teachers and alumni there. In the afternoon President Wei Yang renewed the cooperation agreement with Vice-president William Brustein, in charge of the international cooperation.
On the morning of April 15th, the delegation attended the seminar ‘21st Century China-U.S. Business Cooperation: entrepreneurs’ Opportunity and Challenge’. The seminar is one of the important sections in the cooperation of innovation, business administration, economy, finance and law. President Wei Yang made a speech ‘the leadership of the Chinese-American Universities fighting against the financial crises’, talking about developing new economic society to deal with the financial crises by scientific and technical innovation and progress. The speech analyzed the opportunity and challenge brought by the financial crises. And the suggestion that the Chinese and American Universities should enhance the cooperation to explore the new research field and create a new mode of academic education drew the attendants’ attention.
