President Wei Yang visited University of Cambridge and met the local alumni

On May 22nd President Wei Yang paid a one-day visit to University of Cambridge. President Wei Yang met the representatives and alumni of the University of Cambridge. He delivered a speech ‘Dynamic development of research universities in China’ in high-level forum of Chinese Students and Scholars Association in Cambridge (CSSA‐CAM).
President Wei Yang arrived at University of Cambridge in the morning local time. Then the delegation and the representatives of the University of Cambridge met in the Riverside Restaurant and had lunch together. The attendants included the vice-president of the University of Cambridge, some professors cooperating with Zhejiang University or Zhejiang Province, international officer of the University of Cambridge and the local alumnus representatives. During the meeting both of the universities discussed the development of the universities and international intercourse. They reached a preliminary consensus on the president of the University of Cambridge’s visit in 2010 and the student exchange project after the serious discussions. Secretary-general of UK Alumni Association Hongwei Wang touched in detail with the professors involved on the student exchange project between two universities and they would keep contact with each other to start the project.
In the afternoon President Wei Yang visited the 2nd oldest college in the University of Cambridge --Clare College and enjoyed the 800th anniversary atmosphere. President Wei Yang had a friendly talk with over twenty alumni in the famous Latimer Room. He first introduced the recent development of Zhejiang University such as the construction of Campus Zijingang, the undergraduate education system, national key research project and talent introduction policy in Zhejiang University; then the alumni introduced the fundmental situations of the Zhejiang University UK Alumni Association to him and invited him to record a welcome speech for the annual meeting held in London soon; at last Hongwei Wang sent President Wei Yang some souvenirs and letters to show all of the alumni’s respect for the mother school. The talk was conducted in a cordial atmosphere and after that all the attendants took a picture together.
