On the morning of December 17th, 2009, the graduate school held the implementation review of the “Doctor Leading Program”.
The meeting was presided by Prof. Maode Lai, Vice-President of Zhejiang University and Dean of Graduate School. The first pilot units of the “Doctor Leading Program” including college of economics, the department of energy engineering, the department of optical engineering, college of agriculture and biotechnology and school of medicine reported their starting plans combined with the characteristics after the public opinion surveys.
The “Doctor Leading Program” is a critical component of the graduate “Excellent Education Program”, which is one of the “Eight Action Plan” implemented according to the Scientific Concept of Development. The program is to establish the effective incentive and elimination mechanism through the exploring the assessment of doctors’ comprehensive ability. The program also helps to create a rigorous academic atmosphere which guarantees the graduate education quality in long-term and encouraged the students to concentrate on their researches so that the doctor education quality can be well improved and the excellent doctors’ fruits will flourish.
After every colleges’ report, Vice-President Maode Lai pointed out that the pilot units should avoid the formalization of the assessment on the basis of their plans combined with the characteristics by the feasible, quantified and maneuverable assessment methods to improve the graduate education quality. The ultimate goal of the “Doctor Leading Program” is to discover the talents with innovative potential and to train them.
Deputy Dean of Graduate School Jianhua Yan hoped every pilot unit to take the opportunity to explore the new way of doctor education at high levels and to create conditions of the pursuit of the excellent talents and the best students.
