On the evening of March 19th, the 18th DMB (climb) Festival Opening Ceremony of Zhejiang University was held in Yongqian Theatre, while Zhejiang Opera gave the performance of Decorous Art approaching School during the ceremony. In the warm applause and dazzling fireworks, Deshui Jin, chancellor of Zhejiang University, announced the begining of the 18th DMB (climb) Festival.

The 18th DMB (climb) Festival’s theme can be described as” To be erudite, seek the truth, have the responsibility and cooperate with others”. Five parts consist of the festival, i.e. “Beginning, Seeking, Exploring, Competing and Sharing”. On the opening ceremony, RuiZhang, director of the climbing festival organizing committee and chairman of the PhD’s Union, gave an introduction of this event.

At the opening ceremony, President WeiYang and ShanzengLu, chancellor of Zhejiang Association for Science, inaugurated the doctoral science and technology service group. “The Doctoral Science and Technology Service Group” activities was launched by Zhejiang University and Zhejiang Association of Science and Technology in 2011. Since then, an important form of this activity has come into being, that the doctoral students of Zhejiang University serve the public with the knowledge about science and technology. A series of scientific and technological knowledge for the public outreach activities have been held by “The Doctoral Science and Technology Service Group” in many places these years.

ZichenChen, deputy secretary of Party Committee, addressed the opening ceremony. He spoke highly of the DMB festival for it had played an active role on strengthening academic exchanges, creating academic atmosphere, advocating dedication to science and technology, developing the human environment, and enriching the campus culture. He also offered four proposals: firstly, to develop the school motto of “Seeking the Truth and Pioneering New Trails” and the spirit of university; secondly, to carry out the education-oriented concept and create a harmonious campus culture; thirdly, to pursue the aim to contribute to the society and strengthen scientific and technological exchanges; fourthly, to build the platform of academic exchanges and open an international perspective.

In recent years, it has been the practice that Decorous Art Come to School activity play as” Drums” of the DMB opening. After the opening ceremony, the artists of Zhejiang Opera presented a great show for the faculty and students of Zhejiang University. The show is wonderful with ethnic musical concerts and pop songs, and these programs are popular to the audience, including the drama Shutong Li which has won several national awards.

Directors of Zhejiang Institute of Media, Graduate School of Zhejiang University, offices of Party and University, Zhejiang Opera as well as Department of Propaganda, Department of United Front Work, Department of Student Affairs , Department of Graduate Student Affairs, Department of Local Cooperation, Career Conduction Center, Labor Union, Administrative Committee of Yuquan Campus, Administrative Committee of Zijingang Campus, Logistics Group and Xinyu Group presented at the opening ceremony.
