On the morning of May 20.2008, Professor John C. Reitz, Edward Carmody Professor of Law and Associate Dean of the University of Iowa College of Law, USA, was appointed as Pao Yu-kong Lecture Professor of Zhejiang University at Zhijiang Campus. Deputy Dean of academic affairs and Deputy General Dean of graduate school Jianhua Yan and Dean of Guanghua Law School Xiaoxia Sun attended the appointment ceremony.
Professor Xiaoxia Sun presided over the ceremony and made a brief introduction about Professor John C. Reitz's educational background, academic history and academic achievements. Deputy General Dean of graduate school Jianhua Yan conferred an appointment certification and a university badge on him.
Professor Jianhua Yan delivered a cordial and warm speech. He spoke highly of Professor John C. Reitz's achievements, expressed our sincere gratitude to Reitz for his joining Zhejiang University, and expected Professor John C. Reitz's new methods and new ideas.
Professor John C. Reitz graduated at Harvard College in 1970 and received a PhD degree at University of Michigan School of Law, 1975. In more than 30 years of teaching, researching and lawyers career, Professor John C. Reitz has accumulated remarkable academic achievements in scientific research. He has deep knowledge in the U.S. administrative law and comparative law. As Associate Dean for International and Comparative Law Programs, Professor Reitz's duties include serving as Faculty Advisor to the students in the College of Law's Master of Laws degree program. He is a Director of the American Society of Comparative Law, has served several two-year terms on the Executive Committee of that organization and chaired a variety of other committees. He has also served as the chair of the Comparative Law Section of the Association of American Law Schools. Furthermore he has been invited to over 20 famous universities and research Institutions to give lectures all over Asia, Europe, America and Africa.
Professor John C. Reitz will be employed as Lecture Professor of Zhejiang University for three years. Professor John C. Reitz will teach graduates of Guanghua Law school the" U.S. administrative law" from May to June every year. He will also guide the graduates with the professor of Guanghua Law School. This will greatly promote students and teachers of Guanghua Law School to understand the essence of the U.S. administrative law and absorption, and promote the research of Guanghua Law School in the area of comparative law studies.
